The Creative Craft Show

Looking for a chance to give pyrography a go? Or maybe you're looking to upgrade your pen and want to 'try before you buy'? Then The Creative Craft Show is the perfect opportunity for you!

The Creative Craft Show in Birmingham is a show that welcomes creatives from all over the UK to do some seasonal crafting! It is a haven for knitting, cross stitch and paper crafting enthusiasts, offering the very latest supplies, ideas, and innovations in the craft and hobby world.

In March 2025, I'll be there once again (for the fifth time!) hosting pyrography Make & Take sessions! Whether you’re completely new to pyrography or want to refine your skills, this therapeutic craft offers a wonderful way to create personalised, and unique pieces of art.

What to expect from my Make & Take sessions:

Safety First: Learn essential guidelines to work safely with the high-heat pyrography pen.
Slowly Does It: Practice making some marks before creating your masterpiece!
Decisions: Choose one of the Spring themed designs to burn, or request a plain wood blank to design your own.
Burn, baby burn! Follow the template to burn your design onto the wood!
Finishing Touches: Discover how to add a splash of colour using watercolour pencils to make your decoration unique (optional).

By the end of the Make & Take, you'll leave with a super cute decoration, handmade by you! These sessions are suitable for visitors looking to try pyrography for the first time, or if you're guilty of already owning a pyrography pen that has never come out of the box (I know you're out there!), come see me and I'll help you overcome the 'fear of the unknown!'

Please note, I'll be using a hot wire pen on my stand, rather than a solid point pen offered by other exhibitors at the show. It's certainly a great opportunity to try both under one roof, so if you're interested in this craft, I'd highly recommend trying both pyrography kits if you can!

Questions

Do I need to book in advance to take part in a Make & Take?

No need to book in advance. If there's a seat available, you can get stuck in straight away!

How long does a Make & Take last?

Normally, I'd say between 30 - 40mins. Depends on how much practice you feel you need before you start burning the design on your decoration.

I'm not an artist. Do I have to draw my own design?

You do not need to be an artist to enjoy pyrography! A variety of templates will be available for you to choose from, so if you can follow a line, you'll be fine!
