A Lovely First Pyrography Workshop at Bewdley Museum

Last weekend marked a truly special milestone for me. I hosted my very first pyrography workshop (outside of The Creative Craft Show and Craft Retreat), and what an unforgettable experience it was! I had the absolute pleasure of running two half-day sessions at the beautiful Bewdley Museum, thanks to a kind invitation from the lovely Anna. Nestled in the heart of Worcestershire, Bewdley Museum is a bit of a hidden gem, with its charming gift shop, cosy café, and tranquil gardens creating the perfect backdrop for a creative morning and afternoon. The Craft Studio offered an inspiring space to connect, create, and burn some beautiful designs onto wood alongside two groups of wonderful students.
We began each session gently, with some simple mark making exercises. This gave everyone a chance to get comfortable with the pyrography pen - experimenting with textures, lines, and shading before moving on to their first creations. Before long, those practice marks soon turned into gorgeous wooden coasters, each one as unique as its maker!
"Absolutely lovely, relaxed morning learning the basics of pyrography. The start of a new obsession!"
Of course, no creative day would be complete without a little indulgence. The tea and cake from the café were a welcome treat! It was the perfect pause to chat about all things crafty… favourite hobbies, past projects, future retreats, and even a discussion about the other upcoming workshops happening at Bewdley Museum (the variety is well worth a look at!)
"Really enjoyed the workshop. Perfectly paced, well organised. As a beginner, I was delighted with my first attempt at pyrography!"
In the second half of the workshop, we stepped things up a notch with custom chopping boards. Each student chose their own design, many inspired by the beauty of nature and animals. Watching the boards transform under careful hands was inspiring, and every single one was stunning! To finish, we treated the boards with Super Duper Odie’s Oil, ensuring they were food safe and ready for the kitchen once everyone returned home.
"This was a really fun afternoon trying a new craft. Thank you for being so helpful and encouraging!"

Bewdley Museum is just such a lovely venue; full of charm and creative energy. Most importantly, it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with such kind and talented people.
"Brilliant teacher. Very good communication skills. Great patience and interpersonal skills!"
I’m already looking forward to returning in 2026 for another round of woodburning magic. Until then, my heart is full from this beautiful first workshop. Thank you Anna for giving me this opportunity, and to everyone who joined me - you made it unforgettable!
