My Biggest Pyrography Workshop Yet at Carlton in Lindrick Civic Centre
My biggest workshop to date, a brand-new venue and twelve people ready to try pyrography!
I recently hosted my very first pyrography workshop at Carlton in Lindrick Civic Centre — and with twelve students joining me, it was also my biggest workshop yet!
New Faces, Returning Faces and Familiar Faces
The room was filled with a lovely mix of new faces, returning faces and familiar faces too!
Everyone began by learning the basics of wood burning, including how to use the pyrography equipment safely and different techniques for creating lines, texture and shading.

Then it was time to create our very own coasters. There were plenty of templates to choose from, and no previous experience was needed. You definitely don’t have to be able to draw or consider yourself “artistic” to enjoy a pyrography workshop!

12 Chopping Boards, 12 Different Designs
Once everyone had practised, it was time to create their own personalised wooden chopping board.
Some people followed templates, while others adapted their designs to make them completely their own. As always, no two finished boards were the same!
That’s one of my favourite things about teaching pyrography. Everyone starts with the same blank piece of wood, but every finished piece is completely personal.

Once the burning was complete, students finished their boards with Super Duper Odie’s Everlasting Light Oil, a food-safe finish that really brought out the natural beauty of the wood.
This natural oil is my favourite to use because it protects the wood, makes the pyrography design really pop and, perhaps most importantly, smells incredible!
Welsh Tea and Forgotten Cake!
The room I hired for the workshop was a little closer to home this time, so it only felt right to bring a little bit of home with me.
As a Welsh girly, I brought my Welsh teabags along. Tea bags... yes, I brought tea and coffee! Yorkshire Tea would have been the obvious choice, but not in my workshop — Welsh Brew represent! Paned Gymreig, lush.
Sadly, I also brought cakes… and completely forgot to take them out of my bag!
My apologies for this. I got completely carried away with teaching that snacks didn’t even cross my mind. First time for everything!
So, if you join me at a future workshop, I may owe you a piece of cake!

Watching people arrive feeling a little unsure and leave with something they’ve created themselves never gets old. And with this being my biggest workshop yet, it was definitely one to remember!
